Legal
Privacy policy
This policy explains how Construction Defect Reporter (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information. The app is a local-first inspection and reporting tool.
1. Information stored on your device
The app stores the information you enter or capture, including:
- project, client, builder, inspector and site details;
- inspection and defect records, observations, notes and status history;
- photographs you take or select, and annotations you add;
- your company profile, logo, report footer and app settings;
- the local purchase entitlement state returned by Google Play.
Project content, photographs, reports and branding are kept in the app's private storage on your device and are not uploaded to a developer-operated server. Premium verification sends only the pseudonymous install ID, entitlement status and platform integrity proof described under Purchases.
2. Photos and camera
The app requests camera access only when you choose to take a defect photograph. You can also select existing images through Android's photo picker. Selected photos are copied into the app's private storage for use in reports. The app does not request broad access to your photo library or storage.
3. Purchases
The optional lifetime unlock is sold through Google Play Billing. Google processes the transaction and may collect payment and purchase information under Google's privacy policy. The app receives only the product and entitlement information needed to unlock features and restore a previous purchase. We do not receive your card details.
Premium verification. To prevent fraudulent unlocks, the app may send a random installation identifier, the store/RevenueCat entitlement status, and a Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest proof to our verification service. This verifies that the purchase is genuine and the request comes from an unmodified app installation. The service returns a short-lived signed entitlement token. It does not receive your projects, photographs, reports, client details or company logo. RevenueCat, Google and Apple process purchase information under their own privacy policies. Verification records are kept only as long as needed to prevent fraud and meet legal obligations.
4. Sharing and exports
The app does not share data automatically. When you choose to share a PDF or a .defectpack backup, Android opens the system share sheet and you select the destination. That destination has its own privacy practices.
Backups are ZIP archives and are not encrypted by the app. Store exported backups securely. A backup can contain project records, photos and company details. Files you export can remain in other apps, email, cloud drives or messaging services after you delete data inside this app.
5. Analytics, advertising and tracking
We do not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting SDKs or cross-app tracking. We do not sell personal information.
6. Legal basis and international users
Because we do not receive your project content, we do not process it on a server. If you contact us for support, we use the information you send only to respond. Where data-protection law applies, our basis for handling support correspondence is our legitimate interest in helping users and, where required, your consent.
7. Retention and deletion
Your data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove all project content and media from Settings → Data and privacy → Delete all project data. Uninstalling the app removes its private database and media, subject to device backup settings. Individual projects and defects can also be removed inside the app. Backups and exports stored outside the app must be deleted separately. Deletion inside the app is permanent.
If you contact support, we retain the correspondence only as long as needed to resolve the request and meet legal obligations.
8. Security
Project data is kept in app-private storage protected by Android's application sandbox. No method of storage is completely secure. Protect your device with a screen lock and keep exported backups in a secure location. The app does not claim that its local storage is encrypted at rest.
9. Children
The app is intended for adults working in construction, inspection, property management and related trades. It is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes
We may update this policy if the app's features or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be revised. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
